Eemplein Square in Amersfoort, one side of which overlooks the river Eem (which gave the name to the city), previously, in the epoch of industrialization, was the industrial center of the city. Nowadays, at the sites of the former plants and factories, shopping centers and public spaces are situated, various fairs and international festivals take place, and cultural life is actively developing.
The square is always crowded, as locals come here on weekdays as well as weekends to stroll through the large shopping centers. Albert Heijn, the largest supermarket chain in the country, and an electronics store Media Market are well-known outlets here.
Also in Eemplein is Pathé, one of the main cinemas of Amersfoort, where 8 modern rooms, equipped with the most advanced video facilities, are waiting for the viewers. In addition to shops, the Public Library, School of Arts and exhibition area, and the archive of Eemland are situated there.
